Queen Sirikit Botanic Garden

Chiang Mai is home to great gardens and Queen Sirikit Botanic Garden is one of them. Named after the queen Mother of Thailand, the Garden is a short 30 minutes drive from Chiang Mai City and covers about 1,000 hectares.

With various attractions within the Garden itself, it’ll be best to drive here so that you can drive around the huge Garden at your own pace with plenty of parking space at every attraction. However, if you don’t, there’s a tram service that shuttles guests around the Garden. There are 2 looping routes going in opposite directions and the trams arrive in 40 minute intervals.  Adults pay 30 baht while children (under 135 cm tall) pay 10 baht.

Look out for these signs to know where to board the trams and check the timings.

The Canopy Walk is a favourite among visitors at Queen Sirikit Botanic Garden and we love it too. It’s a safe and easy walk among the treetops of the forest with stunning viewpoints of the surrounding mountains. The steel-and-glass path is accessible to wheelchairs and strollers, making it suitable for all ages.

Another favourite would be the Glasshouse Complex. This area features numerous glasshouses that house a vast variety of plants. Nearby, enjoy the beautiful flower garden that surrounds the water fountain in front of the Glasshouses. We visited in the late afternoon and it was beautiful to catch the golden sun rays reflecting off the foliage.

Other interesting attractions include the Glasshouse for Medicinal Plants of Indigenous Tribes (very informative and immersive experience to learn more about the Hill Tribes in Thailand), Natural Science Museum and a Climbers’ Trail. Don’t forget to check out the souvenir shops for pretty keepsakes.
